Paris classics become weekend drivers only

Starting next month, it will be illegal to drive through the streets of Paris on weekdays in a car built before 1997, a legislative move on the part of city authorities to improve air quality.
Fine, but that's part of the fun of going to the City of Lights -- spotting all those running museum pieces: the classic Citroen DS and the quaint, utilitarian 2CVs and Renault 4s motoring up and down the Champs-Elysees.
Alas, Monday through Friday, the old Peugeot 205s and original Renault Twingos will disappear, not to mention the Citroen XM from the early 1990s and even some of the first-generation Megane Scenics -- the small minivan that provided Renault the wherewithal to acquire control of Nissan.
